Since I clearly can’t keep up with offering a new song every week, I’ve decided to give myself a little more leway and rename the feature, “Featured Song.”
Also, here’s a new Featured Song!
This song is a very exciting pre-release from The Academy Is…’ new album, Santi, which is currently slated for an April 3rd, 2007 release. The track is entitled, “LAX to O’Hare,” and it is beautifully typical Academy. The tempo is a bit more upbeat than many of the songs on their debut, Almost Here, but a cool but simple rhythm section contrasts the hectic vocals and melody. This is exactly why I love the band so much: they are not afraid to try new things musically.
And they develop no new fears in this track, experimenting with guitars in the vein of California surf-rock (you’ll know what I mean when you listen to it) as well as church bells in a brief interlude. The song itself is a bit chatoic, but that just means that you will have to listen more than once to pick up all of the subtleties.
Thanks to Kristen K. and Absolute Punk: LAX to O’Hare.
