This very week, a movie very near and dear to many was re-relased: Office Space…
It’s a simple re-release, but with extra-special features. The OS DVD was originally released in 1999, but creator Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead) decided to create a special feature for a new DVD.
Is one featurette really worth buying a new DVD? It is a great featurette, it goes over all the characters and the interesting points of making the movie; like character development and origins, and it leaves out the less-exciting stuff like camera angles and funding. All of the actors from the movie showed up for the featurette, which was a nice touch.
I personally think this movie is downright hilarious, worth as many stars or points as it can get. It’s one of those simple, down-to-earth movies that seems so real; most of Judge’s works do, and this movie keeps up.
The re-release also comes with the standard DVD extras like Deleted Scenes and the Theatrical Trailer, as well as special features for PCs with DVD-ROM drives (I was unable to test these features as I viewed this movie on a Mac (occursed PC and Mac divide!).
I also found the movie itself to be of very high quality: the sound and picture were outstanding, especially with lackluster-quality moves like Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story and some season-sets of my favorite animated shows like King of the Hill. The featurette and menus were also in wide-screen, even though I own the FullScreen edition of the DVD. The Featurette sound was of noticeably lower quality than that of the movie, but your laughter will make it so you don’t notice.
All in all, this is a solid movie. If you don’t own a copy of Office Space, buy this. If you do, try renting it and see if you’re going to watch the special features more than once. If you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for?
